Family Fun
What have you done for fun lately? Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed a few days relaxing with family and friends.
My husband and I did. We took our grandchildren to an animal safari park in Virginia. As we drove our car through the place, animals approached us to get food.
My grandson whooped and hollered after he got a chance to feed a bull and an elk. I can imagine the tale he’ll tell his friends at school this fall.
My granddaughter loved feeding the animals. However, when a llama made a face, she knew enough to warn a passenger. “He’s going to spit,” she told the lady. Seconds later, the unprepared victim got a splat of llama kiss on her neck. Yuck!
The next time that happened, the woman held up a newspaper to defect the shot. In spite of that, my granddaughter loved the whole safari experience.
I fed deer, emu, alpacas, and others, but I found the ostrich the most amusing. It kept pecking at our car’s mirror, apparently believing another ostrich was competing for food.
Although I enjoyed our safari trip my favorite adventure was riding a Slingshot through the Blue Ridge Parkway. (A Slingshot is actually a three-wheel motorcycle with a racing car body. I loved seeing the mountain views without looking through glass. I could feel the cool breezes and breathe in the fresh smell of pines. The ride left me exhilarated.
How about you? Have you taken the time lately to enjoy the small pleasures God places all around us each day? No matter how bad our day might be, He always provides a bit of wonder for us. That special gift might be a butterfly on a flower, a note from a friend, an unexpected visitor, or a delicious meal. The pleasure may be simple, but it will be a spark of light on even the darkest of our days.
